Coming up this week!

Use the QR code to RSVP. We will have a tab open for a few drinks on the house, so try to get there early. This is an informal time to relax, make new friends, network, and have a good time.

It’s not too late to reserve a spot for our North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys Annual Conference on Friday! It’s conveniently located at the Marriott at Crabtree. Please come out to support our chapter and the state organziation. Now more than ever, we as women attorneys need to stand together. There are some phenomenal silent auction items as well as CLEs that promise to be relevant whether you are a litigatrix or just a lawyer trying to keep it all together (pretty sure that covers all of us). Plus our keynote speaker is NCCU School of Law’s own Nakia Davis, and she is an incredibly gifted speaker. I hope to see you there!

I’m happy to share a networking opportunity with y’all from our neighbors at Campbell Law School. Their Black Law Students Association is having a Networking Mixer at the Big Easy on October 15, 2025. Please don’t feel like you shouldn’t go just because you aren’t hiring; students need to practice their small talk skills and you just never know who you will meet now that you will be glad you know in the future. (Remember what Stephanie Robinson taught us - put a pin in that!) RSVP here.

While I’m at it, a brief word on solidarity. Wake Women Attorneys believes that we are all better together. It helps us to promote the events that our sibling organizations provide. We are a better bar writ large because of the Capital City Bar Association and its state-wide affiliate, the North Carolina Association of Black Lawyers. We are a better bar because of the Wake County Bar Association, and the Paulie Murray Bar Association, and so on and so forth. You get the idea. If another voluntary bar association has a fantastic event, we are happy to hear that and we love to support it. If you have an event you’d like us to cross-promote, please just ask! You can always email [email protected] or message the FB page to ask.

Next month, in November, we have a really wonderful speaker lined up for you. Dr. Elizabeth Lane is a professor of political science at NC State. Her primary research interests center on the Supreme Court of the United States, and she looks at how the preferences, behavior, and identity characteristics of extra-judicial actors (attorneys, other political leaders, etc.) influence both judicial decision making and public perceptions and evaluations of Court. Y’all, I can’t wait for this one! Make sure you clear your calendar for this one now and be on the lookout for the EventBrite.

Details to come!

Your Executive Board does NOT want to add to an already busy December with another event that feels like a burden, you know? So we wanted to keep our December meeting light and fun while also sharing our blessings with women in the community who might not be so lucky. We will have drinks and sweets, we will have a super informal book swap - just bring something you enjoyed to trade!, and we are going to do a donation drive for Diaper Train, the only diaper bank exclusively serving Wake County.

Did you know that many low income parents who are unable to afford diapers (which WIC and food stamps don’t cover) have to miss work, because daycare won’t accept your kiddo without diapers. This was news to me, your friendly neighborhood auntie. This is absolutely an unacceptable position to put parents in, but we can help. Their most urgent needs are size 4, 5, and 6 diapers, size 3T/4T & 4T/5T pull-ups, and baby wipes. They will also gladly accept donations of new or opened packages of baby diapers, unopened baby wipes, adult incontinence products, and children's board books. More on these options after our November luncheon. Won’t it feel good to contribute to this need in our community?

Also please note that starting in December, our social events will be the second Thursday of the even months, just like our luncheons are the second Thursday of the odd months. Makes so much more sense, right?

Do you have your 2026 calendar or planner yet? Because I have a date you need to note down already.

I’m excited to hear from the Mayor on how her goals are going for the City of Raleigh, and looking forward to the chance to ask her a few questions, too. Bring yours!

As always, today is a great day to become a dues paying member of the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys AND your local chapter of Wake Women Attorneys. All the information you need is right here.

Looking to get more involved? Check out our Committee Sign Up Sheet, here. This is a 100% volunteer powered organization, and we can make it into whatever we want. We just need you.

Just kidding, we aren’t stopping you!

Thanks for reading all the way to the end. Please share this email with a woman or femme who would enjoy Wake Women Attorneys. See you soon,

SJ for the Executive Board
