Greetings and salutations, fellow Wake Women Attorneys!
We hope you are somewhere air-conditioned and out of the sun as you read this during the dog days of summer. This time of year, we really wish we lived like people do in places like Italy - they all close up shop and head to the beach! Oh well. C’est l’vie.
August Social: A Tasty Treat!
Please join us at our next social. We will be at the Little Blue Bakehouse from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025. Feel free to drop in anytime, it’s casual. If you haven’t been to the Little Blue Bakehouse yet, you’re in for a treat. They are a coffee house and central kitchen for multiple small bakers, and their members have diverse offerings, including a vendor who specializes in gluten-free goodies - there is something for everyone. It’s located near the Alamo theatre on New Bern Avenue. Please RSVP here!

Survey Results
Thanks so much to the attorneys who filled out our survey from the last newsletter. We found out that:
You like the luncheons.
Most of you aren’t up for planning luncheons(we get it!).
Some of you find it hard to make it downtown for both our after work socials and our luncheons (look for upcoming events to be outside of downtown).
After work socials are hard to make for those of you with family responsibilities after work.
For those who work outside of downtown, coming into downtown for an event that starts as early as 5 p.m. is not convenient. Heard!
First, our apologies for not clarifying that these socials are very casual and the type of event where you can drop in and leave as needed. Please don’t feel bad if you can only stay 15 minutes, just let those 15 minutes be good ones.
Second, we hear you! We will push back start times to 5:30 p.m. and work on incorporating locations outside of downtown as we continue to plan them into the future. Suggestions for places you’d enjoy are always welcome.
There is a fair amount of interest in doing crafty things and giving back to the larger community through service projects. Look for more of this to come as well.
Y’all are interested in meeting up for COFFEE DATES and for WALKING TOGETHER. See below for opportunities to start these things (coffee dates) and to join in (walking dates).
Recapping Last Month’s Happenings

Judge Christine M. Walczyck, Clerk of Superior Court Claudia Croom, Judge Margaret Eagles
We had a wonderful luncheon last month with the Honorable Claudia Croom. We are all grateful to the members of the lunch working group who worked to bring this event together. Please send [email protected] an email if you’d like to be part of planning our next lunch event, which will be held in September! Thank you so much to everyone who was able to join us in July.
Community Notes
Wake Women Attorneys shares our warmest congratulations to the Wake County Office of the Public Defender, which celebrated 20 years of of standing for the defense in the 10th Judicial District on July 5, 2025. We are lucky to call you our colleagues. Cheers to the next 20 years.

Please tell any law students you know about this scholarship opportunity. The application period closes on August 1!

Serving on the NCAWA Board is a great way to broaden your network and be of service in our community. Please consider it!
And coming up, this year’s NCAWA annual conference will be in person, right here in Raleigh! We are hoping that WWA will have a big showing. Please invite your colleagues!
Now is a great time to become an official dues paying member of Wake Women Attorneys and North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys (we are a package deal!) because dues are pro-rated for the half of the calendar year. Your dues go to support the maintenance of our website, the services of our lobbyist, access to monthly update calls with our lobbyist, a really useful members-only directory, discounts to our events, connections with Women Attorneys all over the country, and more.

Please forward this newsletter to women lawyers who would be interested in being part of what we are building. If you’d like to sign up for the newsletter, you can do so right here. You will be able to see this newsletter, and future ones, online here.
We hope to see you soon. Take care, friends. ~WWA
